Tuesday meeting 29/6

Hello! guess most of you guys are busy studying for your exams!! Well, study hard and after this, theres time to enjoy:)
Yesterday, it was just the four of us..Dori, Evelyn, me and Jia Hui. We practised speaking to each other by taking turns to answer some of the many questions that were prepared. It was kind of like a poker card game..hehe.

Pick and read out your question.

Jia Hui, a friend of ours was quite "suay" (unfortunate in Singlish). The questions she picked all had to do with describing someone..while the rest of us some pretty interesting thought provoking questions.HEHE.
"What are the 3 things that you would leave your house with?", "What would you miss if you leave your home country(not a person)","Where is your favourite place in Singapore?"...
All was not just fun and laughter, we ended with an article which talked about ideas on how to learn new words. So, if you're reading this, how do you usually go about learning new words? Go look it up in the dictionary, ask a friend, try to pronounce the word, or memorise it?haha...
Well, we learnt that one of the best ways is to learn it from its context! Meaning: learn that new word from forming a sentence or phrase with it.
Hope that helps!

Stay tune for more updates:P

Take note: There will be orientation booths for DMS and RMIT students. IFG will be there on the 27/6

Suggestions needed!

Calling all international students!

IFG is in need for suggestions and feedback on what can be done in the future. This can be in the form of activities, outings, short tours or games around Singapore, learning (focusing more on grammar, speech or vocabulary, sentence structure..etc.) or anything under the sun.

Hopefully with all your feedback we can make IFG more fun and helpful for all international students:)

Thanks!

If you have any inputs, do email us at internationalfriendshipgroup@gmail.com or tag !

The phone ACT

Ready?? ACTION!

That was what we had last tuesday for our IFG meeting. It was pretty fun watching each other act out different roles; comforting a friend due to a relationship problem, venting out at a mobile service provider for their lack of quality, calling home to tell your father that you're in urgent need of money...

Before the meeting started, we were all happy to welcome a new friend, Jackson who's currently studying in DMS, doing his 4th Semester.

Evelyn started us with an activity to guess what each of us were trying to act about. It was a bit like charades, except that we all had a phone stuck to our ear.haha.Connie was all big sister to a friend who was having a relationship problem, she was either a really good actress, or I guess she really could counsel!!(too bad, I didn't video it down)
After all that fun and laughter, we had some time left for grammar. We took a look at words like "of, off" which had similar pronunications, but very different usages. It was quite confusing at first, but all of us got to understand their uses in sentences.
Anyway, enjoy the videos and pictures. (next time I will video it the right side up.apologies for any neck aches..ahahha)

Evelyn trying her hand at acting as a fustrated customer of a mobile service provider disappointed with its service. (sorry, viewers have to turn their heads to watch)

Dori trying her hand at acting as a shopping queen asking for directions to Orchard Road for the Great Sale!! (sorry guys, unable to turn the video clip around)
I would have to say she's quite a cute actress..:P

ACTION: Jackson calling home to tell his parents he's doing well in SIM
Hello everyone, I'm Jackson, currently doing my sem4 in DMS. I'm from Fu Jian, China

Evelyn helping Dori as she tries to act as a helpless "tai tai" (rich lady) finding directions to Orchard Road. Very funny, hahaha

wordmaster challengE on 15th May 2007

yah! It was another meeting of IFG again! Sadly, our dearest myrtle is in vacation at HongKong(hope she will bring us something when she's back:P) aha! alright , i (fiona) will update this blog for all of you then. It was fun and challenging that we had a wordmaster game which Evelyn used the internet and displayed the game on the projector screen for us. What you need to do is to fill in the blanks which you're given a sentence to complete it . You will need to name out the letters for the word you're going to guess and this required thinking a lot too! We started off with easy stage and later on with medium and then HARD. We managed to answer most of them. Connie and liu xin were the CHINA group while Fiona and Yee Yik were named as the south east asia group. Sounds like olympic sport names huh!#.#
Anyway, we took the football puzzles too! It was about questions on football rules, referee,etc.. Although some of us were not familiar with football games, but this game has helped us to know more about football stuffs. Ok, the meeting was very meaningful. Mm...HOpe to see you all next week though!Chao!~~ same venue at 3.11! Have a nice week!

8/5/2007 Meeting

a picture of Evelyn having a hard time opening up the packet of m&ms(hand models from left: Evelyn, Dori)
Update TIME! This time round, Evelyn bought some M&Ms. Wonder what was up her sleeves..anyway, we played this game: everyone had to pick an m&m, and whatever colour the chocolate was, we had to pick a paper representing the colour we chose. The questions were very interesting. One was "if you had a child, which gender would you prefer your child to be?" We had a tie; 1/1. hehe..Fiona wanted a girl 'cos they would be able to enjoy similar interests in the future, and she would like to doll her up.haha. I wanted a baby boy cos they tend to be more playful and interesting.( its just an opinon coming from me, no discrimination involved)
Another question that was raised was: "If you had a month to go on a holiday, where would you go?" Everyone had that question: Switzerland, Korea, Mynammar, Greece topped our lists of destinations! **sighhh..if only right...

Till our next meeting...:)

Know why Fiona is so excited? 'cos she can't wait to answer this question.heheh..
